Dried Fruits

One way to preserve fruits is to dry them. Dried fruits are normally rich in vitamins A, B1, B2, B3 and B6 as well as in minerals such as calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium, sodium, copper and manganese. Thanks to their rich content, dried fruits are a perfect snack for all age groups, children in particular. Dried fruits are also popular with sportsmen.

Apple, banana, kiwi fruit, mango, peach, pear, pineapple, strawberry and persimmon are some of the fruits that are usually dried.

Dried Apricot

Apricot, a fruit native to Asia, has been grown on the continent for thousands of years. Iran is the third largest producer of apricot in the world. In the past, our ancestors used apricot, which is rich in copper, to treat anemia. Dried apricot is rich in vitamin B which helps treat insomnia and forgetfulness. So it can be an integral part of the elderly people’s diet.

Dried apricot contains water, calcium, potassium, phosphor, iron, starch, fat and vitamin B.

Dried White Mulberry

White mulberry is native to Asia. As a result of industrialization, consumption of dried fruits is gathering momentum around the world. Iran is an exporter of dried white mulberry. In light of the fact that Iran is a major producer of quality mulberries, the country has a big share of the global market.

Dried white mulberry is rich in minerals, tannin, fat and vitamin C and D. Doctors advise all age groups to snack on dried white mulberry because of its high nutritional value.


Raisins are dried grapes. Production of raisin in Iran dates back to 2000 BC. As many as 100 different types of raisins are produced in Iran. Still the country’s share of the global market is no more than 10%. Raisin is rich in vitamin A and B, potassium, sodium, iron, manganese and fiber.

Thanks to its rich calcium content, consumption of raisin can help prevent osteoporosis. Raisin accounts for a major part of Iran’s agricultural exports.

Dried Fig

Fig is a fruit native to the Middle East. Iran is the fifth largest producer of fig in the world. Among other places, fig is commercially grown in Estahban, a town near Shiraz in south-central Iran. Dried fig is a processed product of the fruit. Iran’s dried fig is globally known, among other things, for being organic.

Dried fig is rich in fiber and calcium, thus it helps prevent cancer. In addition to various minerals, dried fig contains a range of vitamins.


Iran’s barberry is world famous. In fact, Iran accounts for as much as 90% of the global produce. Barberry rice, a delicious Iranian dish, is known all over the world. Barberry is native to areas with temperate and subtropical climates. It contains vitamin B, including B1 and B2. The former plays an important role in helping individuals relax.

The fruit is used in making barberry jam, sauce, and cake. Its extract is a popular drink.
